Miguel’s mother immigrated to Canada from Chile in 1966 with the hope of having a better life. Graziela attended school to learn English, where she met James McCristall. Later on, Miguel’s grandmother helped Graziela, who used the name Grace in Canada, find employment in the Chrysler factory. Miguel, christened Michael James McCristall, was born on the first of June 1970, barely a year after his older brother, Philip, was born.
